Multiple Tornadoes Leave Trail of Destruction

Four Injured, Hundreds of Buildings Damaged

The National Weather Service (NWS) is assessing the damage after several tornadoes touched down in Kansas overnight and early Tuesday morning. The NWS has confirmed at least five tornadoes in the state, including two that struck the Wichita area Friday evening.

According to officials, the two tornadoes in Wichita caused significant damage and injured at least four people. A tornado warning was issued for Scott County until 6:30 pm, and a confirmed tornado was located near Sedan, Kansas, moving northeast at 30 mph.

In addition to Wichita, tornadoes were also reported in other parts of Kansas, including Pottawatomie County and Chautauqua County. The NWS reported a total of 106 tornadoes across the region on Friday, affecting areas in Nebraska, Iowa, Texas, Missouri, and Oklahoma.

One tornado watch area currently includes the Kansas City metropolitan area, impacting approximately 27 million people in southeastern Kansas and western and central Missouri.

The NWS advises residents to remain vigilant and follow warnings and precautions. They should seek shelter immediately if a tornado warning is issued and avoid driving through flooded areas.
